Sean Simmonds has released a new EP on his website for free download. The EP is titled Long Story Short: The Genesis EP and it is a precursor to his upcoming album The Genesis which will be released early 2013. Sean's music up to this point is mainly in the R&B genre but this EP serves as his entrance into the world of hip-hop/rap.

The first single off of the EP is Fireproof, a song about the struggles of growing up in a single parent and dealing with the volatile nature of the music industry. The song is a good indicator of what is to come from Sean's full length, seamlessly fusing R&B and hip-hop together.  Read the rest of this entry

B.Reith – How The Story Continues

B.Reith just released a new mixtape called How The Story Continues for free at his website. The mixtape has a handfull of remixes off of his last album How The Story Ends. The album features many artists as guest vocalists including Lecrae, Lisa Gungor, Dre Murray, Theory Hazit, and more.

For the most part this is all rap/hip-hop but I also have it listed under R&B because Lonely Hearts has heavy R&B influence mostly coming from Kevin Olusola's vocals. I also listed this mixtape under pop rock because the Simple Days remix has a chorus that is very pop rock. Simple Days is probably my favorite from the album, I think it's because the music is Lou Reed's song Take A Walk On The Wild Side. Read the rest of this entry

J.R. – Murray’s Grammar, New Rules

J.R., also known as Courtney Peebles is a Christian singer producer that was former signed to Cross Movement Records where he released two albums Metamorphosis and Life By Stereo. He has since left to independently make music. He released his first Mixtape named Murray's Grammar, New Rules and gave it away for free.

It's hard to put this album in one musical genre because there are so many different styles throughout. He draws from rock, soul, hip-hop, alternative among others throughout the album. The list of influences that he lists on his Facebook page sums it up well Sade, Kenna, 4th Avenue Jones, Lenny Kravitz, Sting, U2, Coldplay, The Beatles, Prince, Radiohead, and N.E.R.D. There are a handful of times that the music reminded me of Lenny Kravitz and Kenna definitely came to mind numerous times throughout the album. I have been a big fan of Kenna so as far as I'm concerned that's a good thing. Read the rest of this entry
