And Then You Came is a hardcore/metalcore band from Debrecen, Hungary. Check out their EP, Restoration that they are giving away for free on their Bandcamp page. Sanhedrin – Pro Human. Pro Life.

Sanhedrin is a local band out of Tempe Arizona. The band consists of former and current members of Overcome, Beautiful Ones, Never Meant, Kashyyyk, and Dead Hours. I will tell you right away that this type of music is not for everyone, it's a mix of hardcore and grindcore. I read one place where they compare them to Harm's Way, Hatred Surge, and Integrity. I personally enjoy the music and encourage people to check out the lyrics, that can be found at the Bandcamp page.

At their Facebook page there is a post that says, I assume it's the lead singer, they spent a number of months living in Accra, Ghana and that is where the concept of the album came from. The lyrics are based on the experiences that he had while there. Read the rest of this entry

Maranatha – Incarnate (EP)

Maranatha is a one man band made up of former Symphony In Peril drummer Collin Simula. The music is metal/hardcore, I've also seen some people label it under sludge metal. The lyrics at times can sound somewhat controversial, but what else would you expect from a former member of Symphony In Peril. The lyrics revolve around questioning America's current Christian culture, this is what Collin has to say about Maranatha's lyrics.

"In a world where God is known as an uber-capitalist, misogynistic, backwards, fag-hating pig, Maranatha is addressed from one Hypocrite to all hypocrites. Maranatha does not exist to project hatred or judgment. This project is a call to a community from directly within it. A call to act justly. To love mercy, and to walk humbly. If you are reading this and you have a deep disdain for God – one that has its roots in a deep disdain for Christians – Maranatha does not seek to invalidate your convictions, or even change your mind. What Maranatha does seek to do is contend that the God you experienced wasn't real in the first place." Read the rest of this entry

See The Light – Tepid

See The Light's second EP Maranatha has been one of my favorite albums since listening it. I have since been waiting patiently for them to release a full length and the wait is over. Their new album Tepid has been released for free download again through Come And Live.

I instantly miss the keyboards that have disappeared due to their keyboard player leaving the band. I thought this gave them a unique sound and without that element they sound like many other bands. Not that they sound bad or the album is bad, it's just something that I will miss. I hope that they look into replacing the keyboard player before recording more albums. All that aside I enjoy the album. Read the rest of this entry

Facedown Records – 2011 Fall Winter Sampler

The hardcore/metalcore record label Facedown Records has released it's latest sampler for free download. The 2011 Fall Winter Sampler contains eleven of some of their top current songs.

I enjoy the fact that most of the lyrics are very straight forward about their faith as Christians. Many "Christian" bands nowadays try their best to sing about Christianity without ever having to mention anything that may let people know they are Christians. There are many different reasons that bands will give for doing this and I get it I'm not judging them for that. But there is something that I really respect in bands that just come out and say it. Read the rest of this entry

Wild At Heart – Self-Titled (EP)

Wild At Heart is a hardcore band from Detroit, Michigan. They have a sound like, well almost every other hardcore band out there I guess, so if you like hardcore you should enjoy this. At their Myspace and Facebook they have this to say about their band, " We are here to do one thing, and one thing alone….and that is to spread the love of Jesus Christ, and be vessels for the Lord our God to further lead our generation to the one true love." Their lyrics then reflect that mission and are very Christian driven.

All the songs are your typical hardcore style except a cover that they do of the Rich Mullins song Awesome God, which ends up being more of a hard rock worship song. Over all it's a good sounding record and I look forward to more from them. They are in the studio at the moment recording their first full-length that will be titled Warefare. They said on their Myspace that it should be out winter of 2011, so any time soon I'd imagine. Read the rest of this entry

See The Light – Maranatha

Right away See The Light's Maranatha reminded me a bit of Andrew W.K., but a bit heavier. There is very clear Christian messages that come through in their music, some bands express their religious ideas without actually waving a flag that says, "Yes, we are Christians and this is a Christian album," but these guys do not hide the fact in the least.

I think most would put it in the category of metalcore their MySpace says spirit-filled hardcore. This is definitely a "heavy worship" album, they don't hide that they are singing about their Christian beliefs so they can appeal to a secular audience. The music is fantastic and a bit all over the place as far as music styles. The album has spoken word, worship, hardcore/metal, progressive metal and piano pieces are laced throughout beautifully. I have grown very fond of this album and it is one of my current favorites, it is something I can feel great about listening to with my kids around. Read the rest of this entry
